Vertebrate phototransduction cascade



There are thousands of disk membranes in rod outer segments of vertebrates. Reception and amplification of photo-signal are carried out on the surface of these disk membranes. More than ten kinds of proteins participate in this phototransduction cascade. Homologues of these proteins play roles in cone photoreceptors.
